This guy made good on a promise he made twenty years ago to his preschool crush

When I was in preschool, I had the biggest crush on this kid named Eric. I have no clue what his last name was, but I made sure to have my mom take a picture of us at preschool graduation because I was convinced that I would marry him some day.

Given the fact I don’t remember his last name and I’m still single, clearly this fairy tale romance existed only in my preschool mind.

But for some people, promises made in preschool can turn into dreams come true.

Take for instance, Laura Scheel and Matt Grodsky.

They go way back to preschool together, where they would hang out on the playground and stay up together during nap time.

But there was more than just friendship growing between the two of them, even if it took twenty years to come to fruition.

In a post on the Instagram, Matt said that one of his earliest memories was standing up in front of his class and declaring his love for his best friend Laura.

“Laura and I met in preschool. One of my very first memories is of being 3 years old and standing up in front of my pre-school class, declaring that I would marry her someday. As kids, Laura taught me how to ride the swings, draw rolling hills, and the ‘right way’ to properly eat string cheese.”

We have fond memories of playing hide-and-go-seek, chasing after each other on the playground, and mischievously staying up during nap time.”

Eventually, we lost touch upon entering our Elementary School days and for the next seven years, our family’s annual Christmas cards was the only way we ever saw each other’s faces. It wasn’t until High School that we reconnected by happenstance through a mutual friend. Within two weeks, we decided to be boyfriend and girlfriend.

“I was enamored with Laura as a child, and I still am to this day.”

“We continued to date through out all of High School, even though we went to different schools. We even stuck together long-distance while attending colleges in different states. We remained a resilient couple until May 23rd, 2015 when I decided to stay true to my preschool pledge and make Laura my wife. I proposed to her at the place it all began… our preschool classroom.”

Even though the two lost touch in elementary school, they were able to reconnect during their freshman year of high school after Laura saw Matt’s name in a mutual friend’s phone.

“I was hesitant to go out with him,” Laura said. “But he texted me and we hit it off.”

Even though they attended different high schools and went to college in different states, they were able to make it work.

So much so that Matt popped the question to Laura at the preschool where they first met, making good on his childhood promise.

“The whole car ride to the preschool she kept asking me why I seemed anxious. I kept checking my pocket when she wasn’t looking to make sure the ring was still there,” Matt said. “I dropped down on one knee while my brother came in with the phone, snapping photos. Laura was shocked. I gave her my pitch on why I wanted her to marry me and she said yes ― whew!”

But it didn’t end there…

So what started as a preschool crush…

…turned into a lifelong commitment to have and to hold, as long as they both shall live.
